The Scissors and spin-off bands

A review by James Orchard (alias N. Kay).

The Miracle Scissors have developed throughout the years and in doing so have spawned a variety of groups who have been influenced to some extent by the original music. These splinter groups have had some success in their own right but have never managed to obtain the same kind of sound that The Miracle Scissors have, some might say this is a good thing but I think this is just sour grapes from failed musicians!

Perhaps the best group of this kind was The Dumbfound Town formed by Rob & George from TMS, Paul from Dursley and the then little known but hugely talented Poppy (later to write the popular, if lengthy, Rock and Roll Tonight) and Jayne who had tremendous influence on the song writing and poetry of Rob.
This Band specialised in gentle, sad songs which often made people weep and cry out. George left The Dumbfound Town after the first session complaining of his lack of support and ability to play any instrument, he was allowed to go without any problem and no one complained or noticed until the song entitled Fat Bloke Happy was written. The band thought that George would have a great deal to offer to this lively little number but realised he had not been about for six months. This band split with much bad feeling when Chris blundered in destroying the musical harmony.

Two members of The Miracle Scissors went on to form the concept band That Brilliant Feeling. Fronted by Rob Tomlinson and shaped by the talented Nick Kay this duo had ideas to write the definitive album, this project took shape while the pair were sitting by St Paul's cathedral but never came to fruition due to pressures outside the bands control. An insider told me that they were just far to lazy to contemplate such work and played on football game machines instead.

Another band to form was the little known Peterlea Taylor and the Sheep Feelers, Peterlea was the driving force and the distinctive voice behind this progressive duo, who's second member was Nick from TMS. Doing mainly cover versions of popular songs, in their own distinctive style, they only produced one classic and that was 'How Many Men'. This one song was enough to start a whole new dance craze that has become known as 'Doing The Lea Lea'. This is known mainly in the Fields of Wales where The Lea Lea Ravers gyrate the night away. Peterlea Taylor went on to found and run the now world famous 'Lea Lea Club'. He know resides in the south of France where he lives the life of an international playboy.

The Lea Lea Club

Created in the late 1980's by Mr Taylor this club has gone from strength to strength to become one of the worlds greatest night spots. It has however had an interesting past. Started in 1987 with financial backing from The Miracle Scissors' Chris West, the club had humble beginnings being set in a small out-house in Tenby, word spread throughout the local area and people flocked to experience the unique vibe offered in its compact function room. The acts included Mr Taylor himself, singing under the pseudonym 'Mr Cheesy' he drew crowds from all over south Wales and even as far as the Rhondda Valley. With the Taylor - West team at the helm of the good ship Lea Lea, the wind filled the sails and sped the vessel on its journey of success, that was until it struck the hidden rocks of financial ruin.
Mr West withdrew his backing and under a hail of publicity surrounding his relationship with Ms. P. Robertson the well known guitarist and song writer with the band The Dumbfound Town. This left Mr Taylor grounded upon the deserted island that was destitution, however during the next few months, now free from Mr West's constricting ideas, Peterlea found the tasty fruits hanging from the hard graft and elbow grease tree, and created the Lea Lea Club as it is now.
