Nick Kay joined The Miracle Scissors in 1995 in their second, more succesful phase. He had been previously involved in the ill-fated Savage Day project with Rob Tomlinson. He brought a fresh approach to the style of playing and rejuvenated the band. His guitar playing brought us such classics as 'Out of the Frying Pan' and 'Things Change' but his vocal abilities were shown to be less than perfect on the cover version of The Lemonheads 'Into Your Arms'. Nick often missed jamming sessions as he lived quite a long way away really, but once the band acquired a portable 4 track tape recorder this was no longer a problem as Nick's tracks could be added later. Nick was always into techno gadgets and plugged his guitar into several boxes of tricks before it was amplified to produce his unique sound. Some purists crticised this approach at first but changed their minds after hearing the eerie sweeping second guitar on Things Change. Nick is currently living by the sea and he occasionally discusses reforming the band under another name with Chris West. A band going by the name of 'The Jubilee Eclipse' have been heard rehearsing old Scissors songs recently on the South coast, and mysterious flyers have been found across Western Europe. One can only speculate but I believe Nick Kay will be back on the scene very soon...
